AI manufacturing investment

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) plans to launch a competition for a new Manufacturing USA institute focused on using AI to boost the resilience of US manufacturing.

NIST will invest $70 million over 5 years to create this AI-focused institute. The goal is for the institute to conduct research projects and workforce training that help domestic manufacturers adopt AI technologies like predictive maintenance and operations optimization.

Midjourney vs Stability AI

Midjourney experienced a major outage that prevented users from accessing generated images. Midjourney claimed the outage was caused by "botnet-like activity" from two paid accounts linked to employees of Stability AI.

Midjourney accused Stability AI employees of attempting to scrape a large amount of their training data during this outage. As a result of the incident, Midjourney has banned all Stability AI employees from using their service indefinitely and introduced a new policy banning "aggressive automation" from any company.
